Analysts highlight the importance of transparency, trust and security in the use of Artificial Intelligence
SÃO PAULO , October 10, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Gartner , a world leader in research and advice for companies, predicts that by 2026 companies that implement transparency, trust and security in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) will see their models of technologyachieve a 50% improvement in terms of adoption, achievement of business objectives and acceptance of those who use them. Gartner also predicts that by 2028 AI-based machines will account for 20% of the global workforce and 40% of all economic productivity. Gartner defines AI TRiSM as a guideline that supports AI model governance, reliability, fairness, security, robustness, effectiveness, and privacy.
For Mark Horvath , vice president and analyst at Gartner, chief information security officers (CISOs) cannot allow Artificial Intelligence to control their companies. Artificial Intelligence requires new forms of trust, risk and security management (TRiSM) that conventional controls do not offer. The analyst highlights that CISOs need to champion AI TRiSM to improve technology outcomes, increase AI model speed to production, and enable better governance or rationalizing the AI model portfolio. “This way, up to 80% of false and illegitimate information can be eliminated”, warns Horvath.
Artificial Intelligence not only poses considerable risks to data, as sets of sensitive information are often used to train technology models, but also the accuracy of the results of the models themselves and the quality of the data sets can vary over time. , which can cause adverse consequences.
Implementing AI TRiSM allows companies to understand what their AI models are doing, how well they align with original intentions, and what can be expected in terms of performance and business value.
Gartner warns that companies run the risk of implementing hundreds or thousands of AI models that IT leaders themselves will not be able to explain or interpret. For analysts, companies that are not able to manage the risks associated with Artificial Intelligence (AI) are much more likely to obtain violations and negative results. AI models may not work as planned, resulting in security and privacy failures, as well as harm to individuals, financial and reputational losses. AI that is executed improperly can also lead companies to make poor business decisions.
AI TRiSM is a “team sport”: “AI TRiSM cannot be led by a single business unit because it requires education and collaboration across teams,” says Jeremy D’Hoinne , vice president and analyst at Gartner. For him, CISOs must have a clear understanding of their responsibilities with Artificial Intelligence within teams that may include IT employees, legal, compliance and data analysis teams. “Without a robust AI TRiSM program, AI models can work against the business, introducing unexpected risks, which causes adverse model outcomes, privacy violations, substantial reputational damage, and other negative consequences,” the analyst says.
Priorities in AI risk management: Since AI can be viewed like any other application, CISOs may need to recalibrate expectations within and outside their teams. Once expectations are defined, these leaders and their teams need to take five Artificial Intelligence risk management actions:
1. Capture the extent of exposure, inventory the Artificial Intelligence used in the company and ensure the right level of explainability;
2. Raise awareness among your company’s teams and lead a formal education campaign about the risks of Artificial Intelligence;
3. Support the reliability, reliability and security of models, incorporating risk management into their operations;
4. Eliminate the exposure of internal and shared Artificial Intelligence data through the adoption of data protection and privacy programs;
5. Adopt specific Artificial Intelligence security measures to protect against possible attacks, guarantee resistance and resilience.
