Elon Musk is stepping into a new phase in innovation by launching a purely AI company in hopes of rivaling the tech leader, Microsoft.
In his recent post on X, the wealthiest man on Earth wrote-
“Join @xAI and help build a purely AI software company called Macrohard. It’s a tongue-in-cheek name, but the project is very real!”
He explains that software companies such as Microsoft don’t build their own physical hardware. Owing to this, it would be significantly easier to simulate a company like Microsoft entirely with the use of artificial intelligence.
What Musk means is that Microsoft is an entirely software-based company. And all of it can be replaced basically by creative AI. However, creative AI doesn’t exist in the current landscape per se. So, accordingly, he paints a picture of a future where Microsoft’s employees and infrastructure are all replaced by AI. Basically, everything that the tech powerhouse owns could be replaced by creative AI, from coding to management.
This is the foundation of Musk’s idea behind Macrohard.
He seems to be attempting to build a multi-agent AI company that would use xAI’s Grok chatbot. The objective is to create software that would compete with Microsoft’s Office. The agents across this company would essentially mimic human users and collaborate in virtual machines to build software until they are wholly perfect. The ultimate aim is to
“Spawn hundreds of specialized coding and image/video generation/understanding agents all working together,” said Musk in a post on X.
This announcement comes months after xAI filed for a trademark for “Macrohard” at the US Patent and Trademark Office. The filing encompassed an entire spectrum of AI products and services, ranging from downloadable software that artificially produces human speech and text to downloadable chatbot software that simulates conversation.
This has been honestly a long time coming. It’s been since Musk has teased Macrohard in a X post, writing: “Macrohard >>> Microsoft.”
The aim is simple. For Musk to further Tesla’s underpinnings as a purely automotive company. And transform its branding into an AI robotics company, which he believes is the company’s authentic and correct framework.
For now, xAI’s supercomputer Colossus 2 in Memphis seems to be a significant building block for Macrohard. The supercomputer is already one of the world’s giants, and it’s going to be scaled up. Additionally, the Tesla owner also chimed in that there are definite plans to leverage NVIDIA GPUs to power the project.
These are all tiny elements in Musk’s strategic roadmap to compete with Apple, Meta, and Microsoft- the current leaders of tech innovation.
And it seems like the richest man on Earth to become a top-notch player has only just begun.
