In an AI-centric landscape fraught with uncertainty and skepticism, can this tech truly surpass our expectations?
Artificial intelligence has given rise to an intensity of ambition never felt before. Now, those with aspirations have a means and a support system to transform their dreams into reality. This innovation is sure to kickstart a much-needed revolution in how businesses work.
Microsoft predicts that this will come to fruition in the next five years. The tech giant observes that the business world will witness the rise of a unique framework called the ‘Frontier Firm.’
While this is a fascinating forecast by one of the biggest tech companies, what does it mean?
It actually marks the fulfillment of what tech has always promised us—convenience, productivity, and efficiency. Owing to this, human workers could potentially become the “agent boss” of several autonomous agents, asserts Microsoft.
It will not just sweep in like a whirlwind, much to the surprise of human workers, but gradually take root in three phases:
- The initial phase will include every human employee having an AI assistant.
- Then, the next phase will introduce more AI agents into task-specific teams as ‘digital colleagues.’
- The third and last phase will mark the real beginning of the AI boss class, where humans subtly manage and set directives for the agents.
However, this set of autonomous agents who make up the Frontier Firm will be “markedly different,” i.e., they’ll have on-demand intelligence. This means these agents will be designed to offer instant answers to client queries related to particular tasks. Humans will merely be guiding elements in the workplace.
While this resonates with a future we have all hoped for, it raises significant concerns. Given how AI stands to transform the way we work, can we be enthusiastic about Microsoft’s prediction?
