Google has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Wiz, the infamous cloud security giant, for the sum of $32 billion dollars. All in cash.
Wiz started out in 2020 and quickly gained momentum, becoming the leader of cybersecurity quickly. Their multi-cloud and optimistic approach to cybersecurity made it a leading choice.
Wiz grew rapidly and became the most valued acquisition in Google’s history. Google believes the combination of Google Cloud and Wiz will:
- Transform security design, operations, and automation by delivering a comprehensive security platform for organizations of all sizes in the AI era.
- Empower cybersecurity teams with an automated platform that enhances their capabilities.
- Reduce the financial burden of implementing and maintaining security controls.
- Defend against emerging AI-driven threats, prevent security breaches, and streamline incident response.
- Enhance multi-cloud security adoption, enabling organizations to leverage multiple cloud environments and accelerating innovation in cloud computing.
In his blog post, Assaf Rappaport, CEO and Co-founder, says,
“Wiz has achieved so much in a relatively short period, but cybersecurity moves at warp speed, and so must we. The time is now.
We expect this change to enable us to execute and innovate even faster. Becoming part of Google Cloud is effectively strapping a rocket to our backs: it will accelerate our rate of innovation faster than what we could achieve as a standalone company.”
The investment in Cloud Security
It is clear that cloud and cybersecurity are going to stay a major player in the future to come. Many organizations thought that quantum computing and other tech may disrupt this ecosystem.
Google, the leader in quantum computing, doesn’t think so. Its acquisition, one of the largest in its history, is a clear indicator.
AI and cybersecurity will be dominators of technology for the time to come.
