RIO DE JANEIRO, Feb. 4, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Elea Data Centers, a leading provider of sustainable digital infrastructure and colocation services in Brazil’s Tier 1 and Tier 2 markets, announced the purchase of transformers from Brazil-based WEG – a global electro-electronic company providing equipment and solutions for industrial automation, power, and electrical engineering. The transformers purchase powering Elea’s 50MW high-voltage site in the São Paulo market falls under Elea’s US$300M first-phase investment in the company’s AI data center project.
Manufactured at WEG’s Southern Brazil Gravataí facility, the transformers are scheduled for mid-2025 delivery, following Elea’s landmark agreement with Vertiv to procure cooling distribution units to support liquid cooling for AI applications at its São Paulo sites. These investments align with Elea’s growth strategy to address Brazil’s rapidly expanding digital landscape while positioning the country as a major global player for AI. Elea and WEG’s geographic proximity within Brazil ensures optimized delivery—critical for meeting deadlines between 2025 and 2026—while significantly reducing carbon emissions associated with the logistics and transportation of the transformers.
“WEG’s transformers, designed with advanced efficiency, capacity, and sustainability features, will strengthen Elea’s IT infrastructure and set a new benchmark in data center reliability and sustainability,” said Alessandro Lombardi, Elea Data Centers Chairman.
“Our transformers are manufactured with state-of-the-art resources to assure AI applications’ required efficiency and reliability. Elea’s requirements for high-quality equipment, supporting the local industry, and reducing greenhouse gas emission drive WEG to contribute to a more innovative, sustainable, and efficient world, day-by-day,” said Carlos Diether Prinz, WEG Global Managing Director of Transmission & Distribution Business Unit.
