Technology is going on a bit of a bender lately. Organizations all over the world are innovating, and it’s an exciting new phase to observe.
The question- What are the possibilities ahead? – has us all holding our breaths. To add to this feeling of awe, Microsoft has released Majorana 1, their new quantum computing chip.
But Microsoft wasn’t satisfied with just creating a scalable quantum computing model- they created a new type of material called the topoconductor that enables Microsoft to create topological superconductivity- this only existed in theory.
Quantum Computing: Sci-fi made real
This superconductor creates a new state that is neither solid nor liquid but a topological state. This has made the qubit more stable, fast, and small and can be digitally controlled.
Microsoft says, “This breakthrough required developing an entirely new materials stack made of indium arsenide and aluminum, much of which Microsoft designed and fabricated atom by atom. The goal was to coax new quantum particles called Majoranas into existence and take advantage of their unique properties to reach the next horizon of quantum computing, Microsoft said.”
Atom by atom. The implications of this technology are far and wide.
The dream of scalable computing technology is no longer a far dream but a practical reality that Microsoft has shown the world.
This is a true breakthrough. Something everyone should be turning to.
