Company creates CTO role to align technology initiatives with broader business objectives
ROUND ROCK, Texas, Feb. 6, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Actian, the data and analytics division of HCLSoftware, announced the promotion of Emma McGrattan to Chief Technology Officer. McGrattan will lead the company’s technology strategy, innovation, product development, and research agenda to support Actian’s mission of simplifying how customers integrate, discover, govern, and analyze data at enterprise scale.
One of McGrattan’s immediate responsibilities is integrating the data discovery capabilities added through the recent acquisition of Zeenea. By adding Zeenea to its portfolio, Actian offers customers an end-to-end solution that includes data integration, data quality, data governance, analytics, metadata management, data cataloging, data lineage, and data observability.
“Customers continue facing complex data challenges, making it essential to have robust data solutions that maximize the value of their data,” said Marc Potter, CEO at Actian. “Actian evolved and advanced its portfolio under Emma’s technological vision, and as our CTO, she will lead her team to create data intelligence solutions that enable customers to accelerate innovation and enhance competitive advantage.”
As Senior Vice President of Engineering and Product, McGrattan launched Actian’s first cloud offering, the Actian Data Platform. During her 30-year ascent from associate engineer, she architected the company’s core analytics, data integration, and data management solutions while successfully leading multiple technology acquisitions. McGrattan’s technical vision has shaped Actian’s evolution from her early engineering roles through successive leadership positions.
“Customers tell us their biggest concerns for AI initiatives are data quality and compliance, which is prompting organizations to rethink their traditional data strategies,” said Emma McGrattan, CTO of Actian. “As CTO, I am focused on shaping Actian’s products to help customers easily access data and determine if it is fit for purpose by strengthening data governance, enhancing data quality, and ensuring data trustworthiness.”
McGrattan holds several patents and frequently speaks on data management trends, digital transformation strategies, and best practices at industry events. She also advocates for women in tech and provides mentorship to foster inclusive cultures in the industry.
